The Business Trip!

I have a work trip tomorrow and even though it’s not long (2 nights), I haven’t been away in a while….I had to prepare my daughter, as well as myself, and make sure the world would still function while I’m away.  Between my husband and another 4 babysitters, I think I may have it under control, but the time has come to face my child and tell her mommy will be away for a few days.  At first mention she thinks I’m just going to work, but then she sees the suitcase!  And here we go:

“Mommy please don’t go”

“I’m really going to miss you and I don’t like that”

“I love you too much!”

My heart just sank, and then thing got  a little funny!

“Mommy if you go, I won’t give you any more surprises”

“Oh I’m so disappointed in you” WOW-I need to check myself when I say things, I may have said that once, and not to my daughter!  YIKES!

So I sat with my daughter for an hour and we just laid in bed and held each other.  She just needed that and I needed it more.  Then I asked her is she could help me pack or at least sit on my bed and read some books while mommy got ready!

Then, in detail, I went through her schedule for the next few days, explaining who was going to watch her and what she would be doing.  We picked out her outfits for each day and for her activities.  I mean that’s all I could think of doing to make her feel connected and part of what was going on even though we both weren’t happy about it!

Then she told me to wake her up in the morning to make sure I hug her!  I did that, since I promised and it was so hard leaving and having her watch me get in the car…away I went!  I called a couple of times and she asked when I was coming home…so I will see how the next few days go…wish me luck!
